As I am continuing my journey on the GAME Plan, I have to admit that my action plans are going well, and been brought some additional information from my colleagues. For example, the Facebook application page suggestions for students that Miriam. I thank you for the wonderful applications all in one page. My students will definitely benefit from this, from organizing their work, and additional tutoring. I also joined the “I AM TEACHER” from Facebook so I can expand my connection from not only just my former cohorts, but to all networks around the world. Also, this application allows you to download visuals of all sorts for different subjects for free under “freebies”, and of course, the other downloads are for a price.
So far, I am still playing with the applications, and just getting to know how to use VoiceThread more. I might start using introducing the Facebook applications for organizing for my tutorees. I also might started a Twitter as Diana suggested to post my lesson plans, instead of a blog.
Right now, I am just infatuated with the applications on Facebook, and would like to know how it works and the VoiceThread as well. Perhaps, just asking, what lesson can I use this on? What will the principal say to this if the website was blocked at school? How will I teach my students how to use this application in school and still be able to teach the TEKS? I am sure these are common questions that many would ask.
As of right now, I would like to test some of these applications and implementations on my tutorees. That way I know what I am up against. I can see what the timing will be for students to learn how to use these applications as well as any other integrated piece of technology.

I have a Facebook account but I have never heard of the "I AM TEACHER" application. How has joining this group been beneficial to you? I think it would be wonderful to communicate with other teachers across the United States and around the world.
ReplyDeleteYour enthusiasm for using Facebook is making me consider the advantages of using it as an educational resource. I had not heard of the "I AM TEACHER" application. I will be looking into it over the weekend.
ReplyDeletePlease share your experience using Twitter.
Miriam
Jennifer, how is Twitter working out for you? Do students log into Twitter to find out what was taught in class? Have you used a class blog before? When you say, "post lesson plans", what exactly are you posting? Class notes? Homework?
ReplyDeleteThis is what's worked for me. I posted class notes and homework through my school's website. On my class blog, I try to get students to leave comments about each chapter. That seemed to have worked for awhile, but it certainly has died down. I'm evaluting whether or not we'll keep the blog going. I think it has potential but the students would rather be readers of what others have to say, rather than be contributors.
I was not familiar with the facebook application either. I know teachers that work in other districts that use twitter for their history classes as a current event opportunity for students as well as a classroom reminder about coursework, upcoming tests, or extra credit opportunities. The closer students follow twitter the more up to date the stay with current events, course content, etc. He uses to keep the students engaged once they leave the classroom. I personally think it is a pretty good idea.
ReplyDeleteJennifer,
ReplyDeleteI love the idea of using Facebook for creating a professional learning community. I have heard of the possibility of a teacher's community, but I didn't realize it was so well developed. I'd like to explore these new opportunities. Have you found the site to be informative?
As far as using Facebook for classroom purposes, that's great if it's allowed. Most school districts are shy of the lack of control they have on public sites, even with the privacy options. One thing kids are familiar with is social networking, so navigating in this cyber-space wouldn't be a challenge. I think the real value is in developing communication skills in an academic realm online, so that they learn to converse with their audience in mind.
